Hand protection: how to choose your work glove
Not sure which one to use? Discover the main categories of protective gloves.
The use of protective gloves is essential to prevent workplace accidents related to hand exposure.
When choosing personal protective equipment, you should assess your specific needs. Therefore, take into account the following questions:
- What is your workplace like?
- What task will be performed?
- What risks are you exposed to?
Leather gloves
The natural properties of leather provide excellent flexibility and dexterity. In glove manufacturing, full-grain leather (the outer side of the hide) or split leather (the inner side) may be used. This raw material allows for the development of a breathable and comfortable material.
Leather gloves stand out for their high abrasion resistance. Therefore, they are suitable for heavy-duty work involving mechanical risks, such as warehouse operations, construction, transport, loading, and unloading tasks.
For welding, there are specific gloves with strong heat resistance, reinforced palms, and long cuffs to protect the hands from sparks and molten metal.
Coated gloves
Thanks to their comfort and dexterity, coated gloves are a very popular choice across most industries and for general use. They consist of knitted, usually seamless gloves coated with polymers.
Polyurethane gloves
The polyurethane coating provides different levels of grip and abrasion resistance. Thanks to its flexibility and dexterity, PU gloves are ideal for delicate handling and tasks requiring precision, such as in the electronics and jewelry sectors.
If you need high protection against cuts and sharp objects, you should choose a cut-resistant glove with tear resistance. It is mainly used in the glass, ceramics, and wood industries.
Nitrile gloves
Nitrile gloves are recommended for activities involving the handling of parts lubricated with oils and greases. This includes industrial maintenance work, mechanical workshops, and the automotive industry.
Latex gloves
Latex gloves provide greater grip in both dry and wet environments, as well as excellent resistance to continuous wear. They are a great multipurpose choice, suitable for use in agriculture, gardening, logistics, or construction.
